ABS Front Wheel Speed Sensor

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO THE OPPOSITE END OF THE VEHICLE THAT COMPONENTS WILL BE REMOVED FROM.

1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Disconnect wheel speed sensor electrical connector.

NOTICE: The outer drive axle joint has a speed sensor ring. Be careful not to damage this ring when performing service operations near knuckle and drive axle. Never pry against the speed sensor ring. Even minor scratching of speed sensor ring may result in a loss of ABS operation.

3. Remove wheel speed sensor to steering knuckle TORX(R) head bolt.
4. Remove wheel speed sensor.

IMPORTANT: The front wheel speed sensor has a locating pin which may become stuck in the knuckle due to corrosion. The pin may separate from the sensor during sensor removal and remain in the knuckle. If this happens, and the pin cannot be pulled out, it must be drilled out using an 8 mm drill bit.

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO ENLARGE THE LOCATING HOLE IN KNUCKLE WHEN DRILLING OUT THE PIN. INCORRECT SENSOR LOCATION COULD OCCUR AND RESULT IN A LOSS OF ABS OPERATION.

INSTALLATION
1. Position wheel speed sensor into steering knuckle.

IMPORTANT: Check to be sure that the sensor is fully seated against the knuckle. It may be necessary to clean corrosion or another obstruction from the locating pin hole.

2. Install wheel speed sensor fastener.
Torque: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
3. Connect wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
4. Lower vehicle from hoist.
