6. Checking Clutch Piston Seal and End Play

- SA9109T Air Check Tool (2nd, 3rd)
- SA9llOT Air Check Tool (4th)
CHECKING
1. Place both weights on clutch backing plate using SA9llllT-1 and SA9llllT-2.
2. Install air check fixture to clutch housing.
3. Position dial indicator with tip resting on weight.
4. Apply regulated air pressure to clutch piston and release.
Regulated Pressure
1st clutch: 415 kPa (60 psi)
2nd, 3rd, 4th clutch: 550 kPa (80 psi)
5. Zero dial indicator. Apply air pressure and measure piston travel. If end play is not in spec, release pressure, change snap ring and recheck measurement.
End Play
1st clutch: 0.960 - 1.410 mm (.038 - .055 inch)
2nd clutch: 1.520 - 2.190 mm (.060 - .086 inch)
3rd clutch: 1.170 - 1.560 mm (.046 - .061 inch)
4th clutch: 0.910 - 1.180 mm (.036 - .046 inch)
6. If 1st clutch housing is being replaced it will be necessary to install a new bearing and race. Press on new race with thick end up until flush.
7. First clutch only: Install 1st gear thrust washer.
NOTICE: Chamfer-side goes toward housing and flat-side goes toward bearing. Make sure tabs on washer line up with slots on the hub.
8. Install thrust bearing with roller toward thrust washer.
9. Install 1st clutch needle bearing.
