Water Pump: Service and Repair
WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT(IN-VEHICLE)

- J43651 Water Pump Holding Tool
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove air inlet tube and air cleaner assembly.
3. Drain coolant.
4. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield.
IMPORTANT: Twist water feed pipe while pulling to remove it from water pump.
5. Remove thermostat and water feed assembly bolts.
6. Remove water pump sprocket access plate from front cover.
7. Use bolts removed from sprocket access plate and install Water Pump Holding Tool J43651.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to remove retaining bolt that is accessed from front of engine block.
8. Remove water pump retaining bolts.
9. Remove water pump assembly.
INSTALLATION
NOTICE: Prior to installing the water pump read the entire procedure. Pay special attention to avoid part damage and to ensure proper sealing.
1. Install water pump assembly.
2. Install water pump bolts. Initially finger tighten bolts
Torque:
Water Pump Bolts: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
3. Install water pump sprocket and retaining bolts.
Torque: Water Pump Sprocket-to-Water Pump Bolts: 10 Nm (89 ft. lbs.)
4. Remove water pump sprocket holding tool J43651.
5. Install water pump sprocket access plate.
6. Install the water feed tube.
7. Lubricate the feed tube O-ring with silicone gel lubricant.
8. Install water feed tube by twisting and pushing toward water pump. Take care not to tear or damage the O-ring.
9. Install thermostat housing to block bolts.
Torque:
Thermostat Housing-to-Block Bolts: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
10. Install exhaust manifold heat shield.
11. Install air cleaner assembly and air inlet tube.
12. Connect negative battery cable.
Torque:
Battery Terminal Bolts: 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
13. Add coolant.
