Condition:

Some customers may comment that when they initially try to enable the theft deterrent feature, they are not able to change any of the four system displayed numbers to another set of numbers of their choosing.

Cause:

Due to an internal radio software change in May 2003, the theft deterrent feature was inadvertently disabled.

Correction:

Install new radio with the correct theft deterrent software, P/N 10395193.

Procedure:

1. Verify the condition by trying to activate the theft deterrent feature.

2. Turn ignition to "run" and turn the radio off.

3. Press the 5 and 6 push-buttons on the radio at the same time and hold for five seconds.

4. Verify that dashes are displayed on the radio.

5. Press the SEEK/SCAN button up and see if the first digit of the display, which was originally "0 0 0 0" changes.

6. If the first digit changes, verify the ether three will change using the "Theft Deterrent Features" instructions in the "Radio/Audio System Description and Operation" section of the appropriate model year Owner's Manual.

7. If the first digit doesn't change, replace the radio using P/N 10395193. Refer to the "Radio Replacement" procedures in the Body and Accessories section located in the appropriate Saturn Service Manual.
