Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT (IN-VEHICLE)REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove exhaust manifold pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts. (Automatic shown; manual similar.)
NOTICE: Excessive movement of pipe can damage flex pipe.
3. Pull down on exhaust manifold pipe just enough to free from manifold studs and secure to frame.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield.
6. Disconnect exhaust manifold heated oxygen sensor electrical connection.
7. Remove heated oxygen sensor from manifold.
8. Remove exhaust manifold nuts.
9. Remove exhaust manifold and discard gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. Install new exhaust manifold gasket on cylinder head.
2. Install exhaust manifold.
3. Install exhaust manifold nuts.
Torque:
Exhaust Manifold-to-Cylinder Head Nuts: 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)
4. Install heated oxygen sensor.
Torque:
Oxygen Sensor-to-Exhaust Manifold Pipe: 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
5. Connect exhaust manifold heated oxygen sensor electrical connection.
6. Install exhaust manifold heat shield.
Torque:
Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Bolts: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
7. Install new exhaust manifold flange gasket onto exhaust manifold flange studs.
8. Raise vehicle on hoist.
9. Position exhaust manifold pipe flange onto exhaust manifold studs.
Torque:
Exhaust Manifold Pipe-to-Exhaust Manifold Nuts: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Start vehicle and inspect for leaks.
