Rear Fascia Misaligned
(Adjust Rear Fascia Mounting Spacers)
Due to a change in model years affected, this bulletin has been revised and supersedes bulletin 01-T-06, which should be discarded.
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 - 2002 Saturn L-Series Vehicles
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that the rear fascia to quarter panel is not correctly aligned.
CAUSE:
This condition may be caused by incorrect tolerance stackup between fascia, fascia reinforcement and mounting surface.
CORRECTION:
Adjust the fascia mounting spacer inward.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Raise rear compartment lid or liftgate.
2. Remove plastic retainers from rear bumper fascia.
3. Remove retaining fasteners from rear wheelhouse panel to fascia.
4. Remove fascia from vehicle by pulling rearward.
ADJUSTING THE FASCIA MOUNTING SPACER
^ If the fascia is outboard of flush to the quarter panel at the forward most corner, use a rubber mallet and adjust the forward fascia mounting spacer inboard until a flush condition is achieved.
^ If the fascia is outboard of flush to the quarter panel closer to the rear of the vehicle, use a rubber mallet and adjust the rear fascia mounting spacer inboard until a flush condition is achieved.
5. Install fascia over bumper assembly. Engage fascia ends (key slots) over mounting spacers and push forward to lock fascia to quarter panels.
6. Install plastic bumper retainers to bumper fascia.
7. Install fasteners from rear wheelhouse panel to fascia.
Torque:
Wheelhouse-to-Fascia
Fasteners: 2.8 N.m (25 in-lbs)
8. Close rear compartment lid or liftgate.
9. Verify correct fascia-to-quarter panel alignment.
