A/C - Poor Automatic Temperature Control Performance

Automatic Climate Control Performance (Install Updated Automatic Climate Control Module Calibration)

Models:
2002-2003 Saturn L-Series Vehicles with Automatic Climate Control (RPO C68)

Attention:

Condition:

Some customers may comment of one or more of the following conditions:

1. In warm weather conditions, automatic climate control system does not maintain desired temperature setting.

2. Air conditioning (A/C) compressor shuts off intermittently. A/C compressor will re-engage only after ignition switch is cycled off and on.

3. In cool weather conditions, automatic climate control system does not perform to desired temperature after the vehicle has been shut off and restarted within 10 minutes.

4. Excessive blower motor noise at vehicle start-up in the "Auto" mode.

Cause:

This condition may be caused by the software calibration in the automatic climate control module.

Correction:

Important:
Saturn Service Stall System (SSS), software version 2.4 data release 2.0 for 2003 (distributed February 2003) or greater is required in order to reprogram the automatic climate control module.

Install new automatic climate control module calibration P/N 22718828. Refer to "Service Programming System (SPS)" in the Saturn Service Stall System (SSS) User Guide for reprogramming procedures. If calibration P/N 22718828 is already installed, refer to 'Automatic Climate Control Diagnostics" in the 2002-2003 L-Series HVAC Service Manual for additional diagnostic information.

To receive credit for this repair during the warranty coverage period, submit a claim through the Saturn Dealer System for D4707 (Module or Assembly, HVAC Control Head-Reprogram), or if another procedure is performed, refer to the appropriate Electronic Labor Time Guide for the correct Labor Operation Code and Time.
