Defroster Grille Popping Noise Encountered During Cold Temperatures (Lubricate Both Retaining Clips and Clip Attachment Points)

Models Affected:
2000-2003 Saturn L-Series Vehicles

Attention: Technician

Condition:

Customers may comment on a popping noise coming from the defroster grille while vehicle is warming up in cold temperatures.

Cause:

Thermal expansion of the plastic may cause the defroster grille to exhibit popping noise conditions.

Correction:

Lubricate both retaining clips found in the dash panel and the clip attachment points located on the defroster grille with an even coat of DuPont(R) Krytox(R) Performance Lubricant GPL 105, or equivalent. This can be purchased from DuPont, Miller-Stephenson or similar lubricant distributors. (Saturn retailers located in Canada should order P/N 03634770 (29 ml) that is available from GMSPO.)

Procedure:

Windshield Defroster Grille

Removal:





1. Pull up defroster grille to disengage retaining clips.

2. Remove defroster grille.

3. Lubricate both retaining clips found in the dash panel and the clip attachment points located on the defroster grille with an even coat of krytox(R).

Installation:

Snap defroster grille into place.
