Valve Body: Service and Repair

CONTROL VALVE BODY

REMOVAL
1. Remove transaxle case side cover.





2. Remove oil pump bolts, and oil pump assembly.
3. Remove oil pump shaft.





4. Disconnect wire harness connectors from following components:
- Pressure control solenoid
- 1-2, 2-3 shift solenoids
- TFP switch assembly
- TCC solenoid





5. Remove TFP switch assembly bolts, and remove switch assembly from control valve body. The seven TFP switch O-rings are reusable if not damaged, and should remain with pressure switch assembly.





6. Remove remaining control valve body bolts, and remove control valve body assembly.
7. Remove and discard valve body-to-spacer plate gasket.





8. Remove spacer plate support bolts, and remove spacer plate support.

NOTICE: Check balls may fall out of channel plate assembly. Retain check balls with petroleum jelly.

9. Remove spacer plate with spacer plate filter attached.
10. Remove and discard spacer plate-to-channel plate gasket.

DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY

INSTALLATION





1. Make sure checkballs are in proper locations on channel plate. Retain checkballs with petroleum jelly.





2. Install a new spacer plate-to-channel plate gasket onto channel plate.
3. Install spacer plate with spacer plate filter attached.
4. Hand start spacer plate support bolts, and install spacer plate support.
Torque:
Spacer Plate Support Bolts: 14 Nm (10.5 ft. lbs.)





5. Install a new control body to spacer plate gasket onto spacer plate
6. Install control valve body assembly onto the gasket. Hand start control valve body assembly bolts to hold valve body in place.





7. Inspect TFP switch assembly in order to verify condition and correct location of pressure switch assembly O-rings.
8. Install TFP switch assembly onto control valve body assembly.





9. Install remaining control valve body bolts.





10. Hand start bolts.
Torque:
Control Valve Body Bolts: 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)





11. Connect transaxle wiring harness to following components:
- TFP switch assembly
- Pressure control solenoid (red connector)

IMPORTANT: The 1-2 shift solenoid wires are red and green. The 2-3 shift solenoid wires are red and yellow.

- 1-2 shift solenoid
- 2-3 shift solenoid
- TCC solenoid

12. Install oil pump shaft into control valve body assembly.

IMPORTANT: If necessary, rotate oil pump shaft while installing oil pump assembly in order to engage shaft splines to splines on oil pump rotor.





13. Install oil pump assembly onto oil pump shaft and control valve body. Hand start and install oil pump assembly bolts
Torque:
Oil Pump Bolts: 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)
14. Install transaxle case side cover.
15. Start engine, warm up transaxle, and check for leaks.
16. Check for proper fluid level using the "Transaxle Liquid Level Checking Procedure".
