Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Service and Repair

MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR

REMOVAL

1. Ignition Off.
2. Remove air induction tubing from throttle body to air cleaner.
3. Disconnect MAP sensor harness connector.

NOTE: MAP sensor is held in by a retaining clip, there is no hold down bolt or screw. Be careful when removing MAP sensor from clip. The clip is brittle and may break with excessive force.

4. Remove MAP sensor by gently holding the connector end with one hand and pulling up on the vacuum port end until the sensor moves. Pull top side of the sensor down away from the clip and remove.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: If the MAP sensor clip is being replaced, the old clip must be removed. Use a 15 bit torx to remove and install attachment bolt.

Torque:
MAP Sensor Clip Attachment Bolt: 2.3 N.m (20 in-lbs)

NOTE: Use extreme care when inserting the MAP sensor into the sensor clip. The clip is brittle and may break if excessive force is used or if the MAP sensor is not centered when being installed.

1. Install MAP sensor first by position MAP sensor vacuum port hole is intake manifold halfway. Center sensor over clip and push sensor into clip to secure. Make sure sensor is all the way down in the intake manifold port hole.
2. Connect MAP sensor harness connector. Push in connector until a click is heard and pull back to confirm a positive engagement.
3. Install air induction tubing from throttle body to air cleaner.
