Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR

REMOVAL

NOTE: The throttle position (TP) sensor is an electrical component, and must NOT be soaked in any liquid solvent or damage may occur.




1. Ignition Off
2. Remove air induction tubing from throttle body to air cleaner.
3. Disconnect TP sensor harness connector.
4. Remove TP sensor attachment screws and remove TP sensor.

INSTALLATION




1. Clean O-ring sealing surface and throttle shaft. Make sure O-ring is seated in TP sensor.
2. With throttle body valve closed, install TP sensor over throttle shaft. Install TP sensor to throttle shaft at a slight counterclockwise angle to mounting bolts. Rotate sensor clockwise to seat alignment pin and align mounting holes.
3. Apply Loctite 242(R) Threadlocker (P/N 21485277) or equivalent to attachment screw threads. Install TP sensor attachment screws.

Torque:
Throttle Position Sensor: 2 N.m (18 in-lbs)


4. Connect TP sensor harness connector. Push in connector until a click is heard and pull back to confirm a positive engagement.
5. Install air induction tubing from throttle body to air cleaner.
