P0983

Diagnostic Chart:

Schematic:

Shift solenoid 4 is turned electronically ON/hydraulically closed 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear operation. Shift solenoid 4 is turned electronically OFF/hydraulically opening during 1st, 2nd, and reverse gear operation. The transaxle control module (TCM) controls shift solenoid 4 by controlling an internal driver that pulls the solenoid circuit to voltage. During normal 2nd-3rd gear shift operation, the TCM will turn shift solenoid 4 ON and keep it ON until a downshift to 2nd gear occurs. Circuit 2879 is monitored for low and high voltage feedback. DTC P0983 sets when shift solenoid 4 is commanded electrically OFF and the TCM is high.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0983 will set if the high voltage is detected on the shift solenoid 4 control circuit and:
^ The engine is running
^ Trans. Protection Mode is OFF
^ Shift solenoid 4 is commanded OFF
^ Condition exists for at least 500 ms

The TCM will command Trans. Protection Mode ON if this DTC is active.

DTC P0983 is a type A DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
To locate an intermittent problem, use a Scan tool to monitor Shift Sol. 4 CKT Status with ignition ON, engine OFF. Wiggling wires while watching for a change on Shift Sol. 4 CKT Status may locate the area where an open or short to voltage in the wiring could lie.

Shift solenoid 4 resistance: 8.4-22.6 ohms
