HVAC Module Removal

HVAC MODULE

1. Disable SIR system. (Refer to "SIR Disable/Enable Procedure (For Frontal and Curtain Inflators)" procedure).
2. Record radio preset stations.

IMPORTANT: Verify the purity of the refrigerant with a purity identifier before recovery is recommended.

3. Recover refrigerant using an approved recovery system. Measure the amount of oil lost during recovery and record.
4. Drain engine coolant. (Refer to "Draining Coolant" procedure in the Cooling system of the Engine.)




5. Remove suction line at TXV and install protective cap to suction line.




6. Remove liquid line at TXV and install protective cap to liquid line and TXV.

NOTE: Place protective cover over A/C lines and TXV to prevent contamination of A/C system.




7. Disconnect TXV thermistor connector.




8. Remove heater hose at heater core outlet.




9. Remove heater hose at heater core inlet.
10. Plug heater core pipes with clean towels to prevent spillage when removing module.




11. Remove right end panel by gently pulling at clip location.




12. Disconnect doorjamb switch.




13. Remove I/P filler panel (knee bolster).




14. Remove left end panel by gently pulling at clip locations.




15. Disconnect door jamb switch.




16. Move shifter to neutral position.
17. Pull up at rear edge of horseshoe bezel first disengaging retention clips, up over shifter assembly then down and back at front to gain access to underside switch connections.




18. Disconnect window switches, mirror switch and cigar lighter and remove horseshoe bezel.




19. Remove lower I/P front console storage compartment to I/P retainer screws and upper storage compartment to radio bezel screws and I/P front console storage compartment.
20. Pull lower edge of radio bezel rearward disengaging lower clips then upper position rearward disengaging upper clips.




21. Disconnect temperature cable, blower switch and I/P 20-way from HVAC controller.




22. Disconnect: Air bag telltale
^ Foglamp switch/TCS
^ Dimmer switch
^ Hazard switch




23. Remove upper and lower steering column shroud.




24. Remove cluster bezel to I/P top cover screws and pull rearward at lower clip locations and remove cluster bezel.




25. Remove A-pillar garnish moldings.
26. Remove right I/P deflector assembly to intermediate duct screw.




27. Remove I/P cover to cross car beam bolt covers and cover to beam bolts.
28. Remove I/P cover to I/P retainer screws at lower edge of cover and at radio opening.
29. Remove TIP cover by lifting then rearward passenger side first then walking cluster opening around steering wheel and TIP cover out driver door opening.




30. Remove cluster to I/P retainer screws and remove cluster by pulling rearward in car.




31. Remove radio.




32. Disconnect antenna, I/P harness and ground from radio.




33. Remove passenger air bag.




34. Remove center shifter closeout pane!.




35. Remove right and left shifter closeout panel.
36. Remove right and left intermediate ducts.




37. Remove duster connector from retainer.




38. Remove instrument panel fuse block (IPFB) from bracket.
39. Remove I/P ground from H-brace (forward of BEC).




40. Remove BCM from retainer.
41. Remove DLC from retainer.




42. Remove right door sill plate trim.




43. Remove I/P retainer fasteners and I/P retainer.
44. Remove wire harness clips from shifter control assembly bracket.
45. Disconnect I/P wire harness connector from shifter assembly wire harness.




46. Disconnect transaxle shifter cable from shifter lever and control assembly housing.




47. Disconnect ignition lock cable from BTSI lever and control assembly housing.




48. Remove control assembly bracket to floor and H-brack bolts and remove control assembly housing/control assembly bracket assembly.




49. Remove front rear duct by sliding forward on heater duct then up at rear and then rearward.




50. Remove auxiliary duct assembly.




51. Disconnect I/P harness at:
^ Blower motor connector.
^ Blower motor resistor connector.
^ HVAC module connector.




52. Remove defroster duct to HVAC module nuts and defroster duct.
53. Disconnect I/P wire harness clips from HVAC module.




54. Remove left HVAC module to cross car beam stamped metal L-type bracket from HVAC module and cross car beam.




55. Remove remaining HVAC module to cross car beam and front of dash fasteners and remove HVAC module.
