Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide updated diagnostic information. and procedures for the HVAC Compressor Does Not Engage diagnostic table. This revised table contains enhanced information for repairing an inoperative or malfunctioning A/C request circuit from the HVAC control assembly to the Body Control Module. Test and repair of the A/C request circuit and diagnosis of the BCM have been added to the table.
Please insert copies of this bulletin into the HVAC Systems Manual section of the 2003 ION Service Manual, Vol.1. The latest version of this diagnostic table is also available in SI 2000 (SIE 1330998, which supersedes SIE 884944).
The eSI website will be updated immediately and future Service Stall System SI CD releases will include this and other service manual updates.
HVAC Compressor Clutch Does Not Engage
Test Description
The numbers refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
2. The A/C compressor relay output is disabled if engine coolant temperature is above 123°C (253°F). The instrument panel engine coolant gage will indicate overheating.
3. Place the mode switch in any position except OFF, and place the air temperature control switch in a cold setting. Use the bi-level mode for consistent testing of the A/C system operation.
6. The HVAC control assembly is inoperative if the assembly does not respond to any operator control requests.
