Oil Filter: Service and Repair
ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT- L61NOTICE: Do not use a universal type oil filter wrench to remove oil filter, damage to oil cap and engine may result.
NOTICE: When performing an oil change, If the oil filter cap being serviced has a 10 mm yellow dot located on top of 32 mm. hex (P/N 24460712), use only oil filter (P/N 24460713).
IMPORTANT: Either a 68 mm (14 Flute Oil Filter Wrench) or a 32 mm socket must be used to loosen oil filter cap assembly.
1. Using a 14-flat 68 mm (2.68 inch) oil filter wrench or 32 mm (1.26 inch) socket, fully unscrew oil filter cap from housing. Allow oil to drain back from cap/filter housing assembly.
2. Remove oil filter cap assembly with filter.
3. Gasp oil filter cap with filter element attached and gently tap filter off into an approved recycling container.
4. Inspect the O-seal on the cap assembly. Replace if worn, cut or damaged.
5. Raise vehicle.
6. Remove engine oil drain plug and drain oil into an approved container.
7. Inspect engine oil drain plug. Replace drain plug if sealing surface is worn or damaged.
8. Remove engine oil drain plug and drain oil into approved container.
Torque:
Oil Pan Drain Plug - L61: 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.)
9. lower vehicle.
NOTICE: The oil filter must snap into the oil filter cap. If a snap does not occur, verify correct oil filter element is being installed or engine damage may occur.
10. Snap a new oil filter element into oil filter cap.
11. Install oil filter cap with element into casting in block and tighten.
Torque:
Oil Filter Cap - L61: 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.)
12. Remove engine oil fill cap.
13. Fill engine with 4.73 L (5 qts.) of new SW-30 engine oil.
Engine Oil - L61: 4.7 L (5 qt.)
14. Install engine oil filler cap.
15. Start engine and check for leaks.
16. Check engine oil level after engine is Off for 5 minutes. This will allow engine oil to drain down into oil pan from cylinder head.
17. Reset "CHANGE OIL SOON" tell tale lamp.
