Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure

TRANSAXLE FLUID CHANGING PROCEDURE (ON-VEHICLE)

IMPORTANT: To ensure that all sediment within the transaxle is suspended in the fluid, the fluid should only be drained after it has reached a normal operating temperature of 880- 93)C (1900- 2000F). Normal operating temperature is reached after approximately 25 km (15 miles) of highway driving.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.

1. Position vehicle on hoist and raise vehicle.





CAUTION: THE TRANSAXLE FLUID IS HOT. CAUTION MUST BE TAKEN TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY WHEN TRANSAXLE FLUID DRAINS FROM TRANSAXLE.

2. Remove transaxle drain plug and allow transaxle to drain completely.
3. Remove fluid level check plug.
4. Clean transaxle drain plug and install.
Torque: Transaxle Drain Plug: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.)
5. Add Dexron III transaxle fluid (P/N 21019223) until it seeps out fluid level check plug.
6. Clean fluid level check plug and install.
Torque: Fluid Level Check Plug: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.)
7. Lower vehicle and verify proper operation.
