Shift Cable: Service and Repair
SHIFT LEVER CABLE ASSEMBLY (ON-VEHICLE)^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 36346 Fascia Retainer Remover
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect shift cable ends from transaxle by prying on both sides with even pressure using Fascia Retainer Remover J36346 (or equivalent).
2. Disconnect shift cables from shift cable bracket.
3. Disconnect cable retainer from steering gear assembly.
4. Disconnect control assembly boot trim from trim bezel.
5. Gently pry up window switch trim bezel.
6. Disconnect electrical connectors from window switch trim bezel and remove bezel.
7. Disconnect shift cables from shift cable adjusters.
8. Disconnect shift cables from control lever assembly housing.
9. Remove right side console trim panel.
10. Pull back carpeting from front of dash area.
11. Pry shift cable pass-through grommet away from opening and remove shift cable.
INSTALLATION
1. Install cables from interior of vehicle to underhood area. Ensure that shift cable pass-through grommet is properly seated and grommet arrow is pointing up.
2. Replace carpeting at front of dash.
3. Install right side console trim panel.
4. Connect shift cables to control lever assembly.
5. With shift cable ends in adjusters, adjust cables by pushing shifter neutral lock clip. Move shifter slightly to center lock clip.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that transaxle is in neutral.
6. Press and lock shift cable retainers.
7. Pull shifter neutral lock clip to its original position.
8. Connect electrical connectors and install trim bezel.
9. Install control assembly boot to trim bezel.
10. Clip cables to steering gear assembly.
11. Connect shift cables to shift cable bracket.
12. Connect shift cable ends to transaxle.
