P0986
Diagnostic Chart:
Schematic:
Shift solenoid 5 is used to affect shift pressure. Shift solenoid 5 is turned electrically ON/hydraulically OFF during reverse operation and during 2nd-3rd, and 3rd-4th gear shifts. The transaxle control module (TCM) controls shift solenoid 5 by controlling an internal driver that pulls the solenoid circuit to voltage. Circuit 2527 is monitored for low and high voltage feedback. DTC P0986 sets when shift solenoid 5 is commanded electrically OFF and the feedback voltage at the TCM is high.
DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0986 will set high if voltage is detected on the shift solenoid 5 control circuit and:
^ The engine is running
^ Transaxle Protection Mode is OFF
^ Shift solenoid 5 is commanded OFF
^ Condition exists for a least 500 ms
The TCM will command Transaxle Protection Mode ON if this DTC is active.
DTC P0986 is a type A DTC.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
To locate an intermittent problem, use a Scan tool to monitor SHIFT SOLENOID 5 CKT STATUS with ignition ON, engine Off. Wiggling wires while watching for a change on SHIFT SOLENOID 5 CKT STATUS may locate the area where an open or short to voltage in the wiring could lie.
Shift solenoid 5 resistance: 8.4-22.6 ohms
