33. Camshaft and Bearings Clean and Inspect

CAMSHAFT IDENTIFICATION
^ The intake is marked with the letter "A."
^ The exhaust is marked with with the letter "E."





3. The bearing caps for rear (cyl 1, 3, 5) side cylinder head is marked L1-L8.





4. The bearing caps for front (cyl 2, 4, 6) side cylinder head are marked R1-R8.





5. Apply a small amount of Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker (or equivalent) on the forward edge of the front bearing caps to ensure an adequate seal between the bearing cap and cylinder head.
6. Install the camshaft bearing caps to their appropriate position.
7. Install the camshaft bearing cap bolts.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT allow the sealer to get into the oil journal of the cap.

8. TIGHTEN the camshaft bearing cap bolts starting from the center cap gradually.
Torque:
Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolt: 8 N.m (71 inch lbs.)





9. Use the Camshaft Main Seal Installer J35268A to install the camshaft seals.
