Exhaust Resonator: Service and Repair
INTERMEDIATE PIPE AND RESONATOR (SERVICE PART)TOOLS REQUIRED
- SA9168NE Exhaust and Tailpipe Cutter
REMOVAL
1. Hoist vehicle.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON THE HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
2. Obtain a piece of (non-stretchable) string 18-1/2" long. Starting from the number place the string along the pipe. Mark the end of the string on the pipe.
NOTICE: Always use a chain cutter to cut stainless steel pipe. A torch leaves a rough edge and may warp the pipe.
3. Using Exhaust and Tailpipe Cutter SA9168NE (or equivalent), cut pipe on the mark.
4. Remove rear exhaust pipe flange to intermediate pipe nuts (3).
5. Separate hanger from rubber isolators.
6. Remove resonator and pipe assembly.
7. Fully remove gasket material and discard.
INSTALLATION
NOTICE: The service resonator pipe is designed to attach to either the production or service muffler assembly.
1. Deburr pipe ends as necessary.
2. Position service intermediate pipe and resonator assembly onto rear muffler pipe.
3. Install new gasket onto front pipe flange. Position resonator pipe to flange. Install nuts and tighten.
Torque:
Resonator Pipe-to-Flange Nuts: 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
4. Install service clamp and tighten.
Torque:
Rear Muffler Pipe Service Clamp: 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
5. Install rubber isolator to mount hanger.
