Steering Column Collapse Measurement - Electronic Power Steering (EPS)

STEERING COLUMN COLLAPSE MEASUREMENT
A vehicle involved in an accident resulting in sheet metal damage or drive-side air bag deployment will require an inspection for steering column collapse measurement is more than (3) mm the steering column upper jacket assembly must be replaced.
Follow the steps below for measurement inspection.
1. Remove knee bolster bolts and remove knee bolster.
2. Remove upper and lower column shrouds.














3. Inspect the upper steering column mounting capsule nuts for movement. If the measurement is greater than (3) mm, the upper column jacket must be replaced. Refer to figure (1) for measurement location. Refer to figure (2) for measurement detail. If the measurement is 3 mm or less the column may be reused pending the electrical system integrity is within specification.

4. Install upper and lower column shrouds, and tighten bolts.
Torque:
Shroud Bolts: 2.3 Nm (1.7 ft. lbs.)
5. Install knee bolster, and tighten bolts.
Torque:
Knee Bolster Bolts: 2.3 Nm (1.7 ft. lbs.)
