Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER LINE SEALS^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 41239 Cooler Line Seal Remover/Installer
REMOVAL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
1. Place drain pan or suitable container under vehicle.
2. Position vehicle on a hoist.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Remove transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut from transaxle.
(VT25-E shown, AF33-5 similar.)
5. Remove transaxle oil cooler lines from vehicle.
NOTICE: Avoid spinning the seal in the case bore. Damage to the case bore may result.
IMPORTANT: Do not collapse seal more than 1/8 inch (3 mm). The removal tool requires two undeformed opposing edges to work.
6. Use a long chisel with a 1/4 inch blade (or equivalent tool) to partially collapse the seal in one place only.
7. Clamp Cooler Line Sea] Remover/Installer J41239 onto transaxle cooler line seal on the outside of the case bore.
8. Remove transaxle cooler line seat by prying and rotating seal out of the case with the attached tool. Discard seal.
9. Clean case bores for the cooler line seals.
INSTALLATION
1. Place a new transaxle cooler line seal in the case bore.
2. Remove nub from Cooler Line Seal Remover/Installer J41239.
3. Install nub of Cooler Line Seal Installer J41239 on transaxle cooler line seal.
4. Tap in new transaxle cooler line seal into case bore.
5. Install transaxle oil cooler line assembly to transaxle.
(VT25-E shown, AF33-5 similar.)
6. Install transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut.
Torque: Transaxle Oil Cooler Line Assembly Nut: 8 N.m (71 inch lbs.)
7. Lower vehicle.
NOTICE: Saturn Automatic Transaxle Fluid (ATF) (P/N 21005966 and P/N 21019223) are not compatible with this transaxle. If those fluids are used, transaxle damage will result. This transaxle uses Saturn transaxle fluid (P/N 22689186).
8. Add fluid to transaxle.
9. Start engine and check for leaks.
