3. Front Differential Bearing Race and Shim
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BEARING RACE AND SHIM^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 45124 Removal Bridge
- J 45160 Differential Bearing Race Remover
- J 45184 Differential Bearing Race Installer
- J 8092 Universal Driver Handle
REMOVAL
1. Install Differential Bearing Race Remover J45160 onto bearing race taking care to make sure bottom of tool is all the way down inside race and seats flat on top of
selective shim before tightening.
2. Using two wrenches, tighten Differential Bearing Race Remover J45160 to firmly seat tool into bearing race
for removal.
3. Position adjustable leg sections of Removal Bridge J45124 to seat squarely onto top of case section around front differential bearing race (90).
4. Attach Removal Bridge J45124 to Differential Bearing Race Remover J45160 and hand tighten center bolt to lightly apply tension to prevent movement of the tool assembly. Reinspect position of adjustable legs on Removal Bridge J45124 to ensure that front differential bearing race will clear adjustable legs and no damage to case assembly will occur when removing the race.
5. Tighten the bolt on Removal Bridge J45124 to remove differential bearing race from case.
6. Remove front differential bearing race selective shim from case.
7. Measure selective shim to determine its size. Based on obtained measurement, refer to differential bearing shim selection chart in order to determine correct size of shim that will be needed. If obtained rotational
torque measurement was less than listed specification, then a larger/thicker selective shim will be required. If obtained rotational torque measurement was greater than listed specification, then a smaller/thinner shim will be required.
INSTALLATION
1. Once proper shim has been selected, install new front differential bearing race selective shim into case.
2. Using Universal Driver Handle J8092, and Differential Bearing Race Installer J45184 install the front differential bearing race (10) into the transaxle case.
3. After differential race is correctly installed into case, repeat rotational torque measurement procedure to verify correct shim thickness was selected.
