Control Valve Body Cover Replacement

CONTROL VALVE BODY COVER

REMOVAL

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.

1. Position vehicle on hoist and raise vehicle.
2. Remove left wheel and tire assembly.





3. Remove left splash shield.





4. Remove front pitch restrictor-to-transaxle bolts.





5. Remove front pitch restrictor through-bolt and pitch restrictor.
6. Remove transaxle oil cooler lines from transaxle.
6.1. Place drain pan or suitable container under vehicle.





6.2. Remove transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut from transaxle.
(VT25-E shown, AF33-5 similar)
6.3. Remove transaxle oil cooler lines from vehicle.





7. Remove torx bolts and washers from the control valve body cover and discard.

IMPORTANT: Do not damage transaxle control valve body cover, case or sealing surfaces.

8. Remove control valve body cover.

INSTALLATION





1. Clean any gasket material from valve body cover and inspect gasket mounting surface.





2. Install valve body cover onto transaxle case using new bolts and washers.





3. Tighten valve body cover bolts in sequence shown.
Torque: Control Valve Body Bolts: 13 N.m (10 inch lbs.)





4. Install transaxle oil cooler line assembly to transaxle.
5. Install transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut.
Torque: Transaxle Oil Cooler Line Nut: 8 N.m (71 inch lbs.)





6. Install front pitch restrictor and through bolt.
Torque: Front Pitch Restrictor Through Bolt: 110 N.m (81 ft. lbs.)





7. Install front pitch restrictor-to-transaxle bolts.
Torque: Front Pitch Restrictor Bolts: 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.)





8. Install left-hand splash shield.
9. Install left wheel and tire assembly.
10. Install wheel nuts and tighten in a criss-cross pattern.
Torque: Wheel Nuts: 125 N.m (2 ft. lbs.)
11. Lower vehicle.

NOTICE: Saturn automatic transaxle fluid (ATF) (P/N 21005966 and P/N 21019223) is not compatible with this transaxle. If those fluids are used, transaxle damage will result. This transaxle uses Saturn transaxle fluid (P/N 22689186).

12. Add fluid to transaxle.
