Control Valve Body Replacement
CONTROL VALVE BODY ASSEMBLYREMOVAL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
1. Position vehicle on hoist and raise vehicle.
2. Remove left-hand splash shield.
3. Remove front pitch restrictor-to-transaxle bolts.
4. Remove front pitch restrictor through-bolt and front pitch restrictor.
5. Remove transaxle oil cooler lines from transaxle.
5.1. Place drain pan or suitable container under vehicle.
5.2. Remove transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut from transaxle.
(VT25-E shown, AF33-5 similar.)
5.3. Remove transaxle oil cooler lines from vehicle.
6. Remove bolts and washers from control valve body cover and discard.
IMPORTANT: Do not damage transaxle control valve body cover, case or sealing surfaces.
7. Remove control valve body cover.
IMPORTANT: Do not bend solenoid wire connector pins.
8. Disconnect solenoid wire connectors.
9. Remove fluid temperature sensor bolt.
10. Remove fluid temperature sensor clamp.
11. Remove fluid temperature sensor.
12. Remove O-ring and discard.
NOTICE: Do not break wiring harness connectors or fluid temperature sensor.
13. Remove wiring harness from clamps.
14. With a twisting motion remove wiring harness assembly.
IMPORTANT: Place transaxle in (N) Neutral position.
15. Remove bolts, control valve body fluid passage cover and gasket. Discard suction cover and suction cover gasket.
16. Remove valve body assembly to transaxle case bolts.
17. While holding the valve body assembly, disconnect manual shift detent lever assembly from manual valve link.
18. Move detent lever assembly clockwise for ease of removing manual valve.
19. Remove valve body assembly.
20. Remove case fluid passage seals and discard.
INSTALLATION
1. Install new case fluid passage seals onto transaxle case.
2. Shift transaxle into N (Neutral) position.
3. While holding valve body assembly, connect manual valve link to manual shift detent lever assembly.
4. Install valve body assembly-to-transaxle case bolts and hand tighten.

(35) M6 X 50 mm
(47) M6 X 55 mm
5. Tighten valve body assembly-to-transaxle case bolts in sequence shown.
Torque: Valve Body-to-Transaxle Case Bolts: 10 N.m (89 inch lbs.)
6. Install new control valve body fluid passage cover gasket.
7. Install new control valve body fluid passage cover.
8. Install M6 X 1.0 X 50 nun control valve body bolts.
Torque: Suction Cover Bolts: 10 N.m (89 inch lbs.)
9. Apply transaxle fluid to the new wiring harness O-ring.
10. Install new O-ring seal onto wiring harness.
11. Install wiring harness.
12. Apply transaxle fluid to new O-ring.
13. Install new O-ring into groove of fluid temperature sensor.
14. Install fluid temperature sensor clamp.
15. Install fluid temperature sensor bolt.
Torque: Fluid Temperature Sensor Bolt: 10 N.m (89 inch lbs.)
IMPORTANT: Do not bend solenoid wire connector pins.
16. Connect solenoid wire connectors as follows:
(1) Blue
(2) Black
(3) Green
(4) Black
(5) Blue
(6) Gray
(7) Green
(8) Gray
17. Clean any gasket material from valve body cover and inspect gasket mounting surface.
18. Install valve body cover onto transaxle case using new bolts and washers.
19. Tighten valve body cover bolts in sequence shown.
Torque: Control Valve Body Bolts: 13 N.m (10 ft. lbs.)
20. Install transaxle oil cooler line assembly to transaxle.
20.1. Install transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut.
Torque: Transaxle Oil Cooler Line Nut: 8 N.m (71 inch lbs.)
21. Install front pitch restrictor to transaxle.
Torque: Front Pitch Restrictor Bolts: 50 N.m (37 ft. lbs.)
22. Install front pitch restrictor through-bolt.
Torque: Front Pitch Restrictor Through Bolt: 110 N.m (81 ft. lbs.)
23. Install left-hand splash shield.
24. Install splash shield push pins.
25. Lower vehicle.
NOTICE: Saturn automatic transaxle fluid (ATF) (P/N 21005966 and P/N 21019223) is not compatible with this transaxle. If those fluids are used, transaxle damage will result. This transaxle uses Saturn transaxle fluid (P/N 22689186).
26. Add fluid to transaxle.
