61. 1ST Clutch Stack Up Clearance Inspection

1st Clutch Stack Up Clearance Inspection

- Tools Required
- DT 46666 Compressor

1. Set a dial indicator (1) on the 1st clutch selective backing plate (701).
2. Zero the indicator with the 1st clutch backing plate (701) lifted up to the 1st clutch backing plate retaining ring (700).
3. Release the 1st clutch backing plate (701) in order to relax the clutch pack stack up, and then place DT 46666 on the selective 1st clutch backing plate (701).

4. Using approximately 39 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) of force, press the DT 46666 down, and perform the following:
- Read the dial indicator (1). The current dial indicator reading is the clearance (a) between the 1st clutch backing plate (701 ) and top 1st clutch fiber plate (702).
- Measure in at least 3 places. Use average of the 3 measurements as the actual clearance.
Specification
- 1st clutch: 1.1-1.3 mm (0.043-0.051 inch)

Important: If the thickest 1st clutch selective backing plate is installed, but the clearance is still over the specification, replace all 1st clutch steel and fiber plates and recheck the 1st clutch for proper clearance.

5. If the clearance is out of specifications, select a new 1st clutch backing plate from the specification tables. Install the new 1st clutch backing plate, and recheck for proper clearance.
