Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LAT)
Removal Procedure
Important:
* Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
* Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the starter.
4. Remove the positive battery cable to starter motor nut (1).
5. Remove the positive battery cable lead (2) from the starter motor.
6. Remove the positive battery cable clip (2) from the oil level indicator tube bracket (1).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the negative battery cable ground nut (1) from the engine block stud.
9. Remove the negative battery cable ground lead (2) from the stud.
10. Remove the negative battery cable ground nut (3) from the tie bar stud.
11. Remove the negative battery cable ground lead (4) from the stud.
12. Disconnect the body wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the battery current sensor (1).
13. Disengage the two side retaining tabs on the positive battery cable cover (1), and open the cover.
14. Remove the battery positive cable extension cable nut (2).
15. Remove the battery positive cable extension cable lead (3) from the positive battery cable.
16. Remove the underhood bussed electrical connector (UBEC) cover (1).
17. Loosen the integral bolt (5) on the positive battery cable lead (4) and remove the lead from the UBEC.
18. Loosen the positive battery cable nut (2).
19. Remove the positive battery cable (3) from the battery.
Important: Note the routing of the positive and negative battery cable assembly prior to removing.
20. Remove the positive and negative battery cable assembly.
21. Place the cable assembly on a clean work surface.
22. Measure from one end of the negative battery cable to the current sensor location. Record this measurement for reference during installation.
23. Measure from one end of the positive battery cable to the tape location. Record this measurement for reference during installation.
24. Cut, remove and discard the tape (1) securing the positive cable to the negative cable.
25. Separate the negative battery cable (3) from the positive battery cable (4).
Installation Procedure
1. Place the NEW positive battery cable (3) next to the negative battery cable (4).
2. Measure from the same end as earlier, and slide the current sensor to that measurement on the negative battery cable.
3. Measure from the same end as earlier, and position the positive battery cable measurement next to the current sensor on the negative battery cable.
4. Install NEW tape (1) at the positive battery cable measurement and the current sensor measurement.
5. Place the positive and negative battery cable assembly into position in the vehicle as noted during removal.
6. Install the positive battery cable (3) to the battery.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
7. Tighten the positive battery cable nut (2).
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
8. Position positive battery cable lead (4) to the UBEC and tighten the integral bolt (5).
Tighten the bolt to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
9. Install the UBEC cover (1).
10. Install the battery positive cable extension cable lead (3) to the positive battery cable.
11. Install the battery positive cable extension cable nut (2).
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
12. Close the positive battery cable cover (1).
13. Connect the body wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the battery current sensor (1).
14. Install the negative battery cable ground lead (4) to the tie bar stud.
15. Install the negative battery cable ground nut (3) to the stud.
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
16. Install the negative battery cable ground lead (2) to the engine block stud.
17. Install the negative battery cable ground nut (1) to the stud.
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
18. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
19. Install the positive battery cable lead (2) to the starter motor.
20. Install the positive battery cable to starter motor nut (1).
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
21. Install the positive battery cable clip (2) to the oil level indicator tube bracket (1).
22. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the starter.
23. Lower the vehicle.
24. Connect the negative battery cable.
