Steering Column Jacket Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight forward position, support it from movement, and remove the key from the ignition.
2. Disable the SIR.
3. Remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the steering column trim covers.
5. Remove the SIR coil.
6. Remove the multifunction turn signal switch housing.
7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case.
8. Remove the instrument panel left insulator panel.




9. Remove the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.




10. Remove the lower steering column mounting bolt.

Important: Do not remove the steering column to intermediate shaft pinch bolt.

11. Support the lower column as necessary.




12. Remove the 3 jacket mounting bolts and remove the upper jacket from the steering column.

Installation Procedure

1. Clean the column shaft splines.
2. Use the supplied grease to apply 2 grams (0.07 oz) of grease to the column shaft splines.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

3. Position the jacket on the steering column and install the 3 bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 11 N.m (97 lb in).




4. Install and hand tighten the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.




5. Install the lower steering column mounting bolt.

Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

6. Tighten the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb in)

7. Install the instrument panel left insulator panel.
8. Install the ignition lock cylinder case.
9. Install the multifunction turn signal switch housing.
10. Install the SIR coil.
11. Install the steering column trim covers.
12. Install the steering wheel.
13. Enable the SIR.
14. Road test the vehicle.
