Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (2.4L (LAT))
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution.
1. Turn on the radio and record all of the customer's radio station presets.
2. Ensure that all lamps and accessories are turned off.
3. Ensure that the ignition switch is in the OFF position, and remove the ignition key.
4. Open the hood.
5. Remove the generator battery control module cover.
6. Remove the 36 volt positive battery cable clip (4) from the engine control module (ECM) bracket.
Important: It is not necessary to disconnect the engine wiring harness and the body wiring harness electrical connectors from the ECM prior to repositioning. It is also not necessary to remove the ECM from the bracket prior to repositioning.
7. Insert a flat bladed tool in front of the ECM and bracket, disengage the retainer and slide the bracket forward. Reposition and secure the ECM (w/bracket) out of the way.
8. Disengage the two side retaining tabs on the negative battery cable cover, and open the cover.
9. Loosen the negative battery cable terminal nut (1).
10. Remove the negative battery cable (2) from the battery.
Installation Procedure
Important: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and the battery cable end.
1. Install the negative battery cable (2) to the battery.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
2. Tighten the negative battery cable terminal nut (1).
Tighten the nut to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
3. Close the negative battery cable cover until the two side retainers are engaged.
4. Unsecure and position the ECM (w/bracket) to the battery hold down retainer. Align the side tabs and slide the bracket rearward.
5. Install the 36 volt positive battery cable clip (4) to the ECM bracket.
6. Install the generator battery control module cover.
7. Close the hood.
8. Insert the ignition key and turn the key to the ON position.
9. Program all of the customer's radio station presets and set the radio clock to the current time.
