Shift Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Shift the transmission to neutral.
3. Remove the front floor console extension panel. Refer to Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Position the drivers side front carpet aside.




5. Separate the grommet (1) from the cowl.




6. Lift up the shift cable adjustment locks (1).
7. Release the shift cable retainers (2) from the shift control assembly.




8. Remove the shift cables (1) from the shift control assembly, noting the location for assembly.




9. Disconnect the transmission shift cable terminals (1) from the transmission manual shift lever pins, noting the location for assembly.
10. Release the shift cable retainers (2) from the shift cable bracket.
11. From inside the passenger compartment, carefully remove the shift cables through the cowl opening. Ensure the cables do not become entangled with wires, hoses, etc. and do not scrape the metal edge of the cowl opening.



Installation Procedure

1. From inside the passenger compartment, carefully feed the shift cables through the cowl opening. Ensure the cables do not become entangled with wires, hoses, etc. and do not scrape the metal edge of the cowl opening.




2. Install the shift cable retainers (2) to the shift cable bracket.
3. Connect the transmission shift cable terminals (1) to the transmission manual shift lever pins.




4. Install the shift cables (1) to the shift control assembly




5. Install the shift cable retainers (2) to the shift control assembly.
6. Do NOT depress the shift cable adjustment locks (1) at this time.




7. Install the grommet (1) flush with the cowl.
8. Position the drivers side front carpet into the proper location.
9. Adjust the shift cables. Refer to Shift Cable Adjustment (Adjustments) .
10. Install the front floor console extension panel. Refer to Front Floor Console Extension Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
