A/T, Engine Controls - Boom/Droan/Moan at Highway Speeds

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 08-07-30-028

Date: June 04, 2008

Subject:
Body Boom, Drone or Moan Noise at 56‐64 KM/H (35‐40 MPH) on Light Throttle in 4th Gear and TCC On (Reprogram ECM and TCM)

Models:
2008 Saturn VUE

with Front Wheel Drive (5th and 6th digit of VIN L3), 4T45E Automatic Transmission (RPO MN5) and 2.4L Engine (VIN Code P - RPO LE5)

Condition

Some customers may comment on a body boom, drone or moan noise while cruising at 56‐64 km/h (35‐40 mph) on light throttle in 4th gear and torque converter clutch (TCC) on. If the TCC is commanded off, the concern will be eliminated.

Cause

With the TCC on under the above operating conditions, engine firing pulses excite the body floor pan in the rear of the vehicle creating a body noise.

Correction

Updated ECM and TCM calibrations are now available to address this concern. Reprogram the controllers with updated calibration files using the TIS2WEB Service Programming System (SPS) application. These calibrations will be available as an ECM/TCM programming sequence event.
