Oil Pan: Service and Repair



Oil Pan Replacement

Tools Required

J 39505 Torque Wrench Adapter


Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Without LAT-2.4L) (Service and Repair) .
2. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (Engine Support Fixture) .
3. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the oil filter adapter and bypass valve assembly. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (LZ4-3.5L) (Service and Repair) .
6. Remove the left side catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4-3.5L) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side).
7. Remove the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement (LZ4-3.5L) ().




8. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor nut and bolt.




9. Remove the A/C compressor rear bolt and position the A/C compressor aside.




10. Remove the horizontal oil pan bolts (1).
11. Remove the vertical oil pan bolts (2).
12. Remove the oil pan.
13. Remove the oil pan gasket.
14. Clean the following items:

* The oil pan flanges
* The oil pan rail
* The engine front cover
* All threaded holes




Installation Procedure

1. Install a NEW oil pan gasket.




2. Position the oil pan to the engine and hand start all the oil pan bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

3. Torque the vertical oil pan bolts (2).

Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

4. Torque the horizontal oil pan bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).






Important: Hand start all the A/C compressor bolts before finalizing any torques.


5. Tighten the A/C compressor, and hand start the A/C compressor nut and bolt.

Tighten the bolt/nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).





6. Tighten the A/C compressor rear bolt.

Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

7. Install the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement (LZ4-3.5L) ().
8. Install the left side catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4-3.5L) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side).
9. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (LZ4-3.5L) (Service and Repair).
10. Install the oil filter adapter and bypass valve assembly. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) .
11. Fill the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair) .
12. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (Engine Support Fixture) .
13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Without LAT-2.4L) (Service and Repair) .
