Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Transmission Fluid Check

Important:
* It is not necessary to check the fluid level unless the fluid has been changed or a leak is suspected.

* Inspect the fluid level only when the engine is off. Ensure the vehicle is level. The transaxle must be cold.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the fluid level check plug (2).
3. Verify that the fluid is level with the opening.
4. If the transaxle is not properly filled, remove the fluid fill cap (1) and carefully add manual transmission and transfer case fluid G/M P/N 88861800 (Canadian P/N 88861801) until it begins to flow out of the fill/check plug hole.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

5. Install the fluid level check plug (2).

Tighten the fluid level check plug to 38 N.m (28 lb ft).

6. Lower the vehicle.
