Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair




Parking Brake Lever Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Place the park brake lever in the released position.
2. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair).




4. Disconnect the park brake warning lamp switch electrical connector (1).




5. Using ONLY hand tools, loosen the park brake cable adjustment nut (1).




6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
7. Release the left rear park brake cable (1) and the right rear park brake cable (2) from the equalizer.
8. Lower the vehicle.




9. Remove the 2 front park brake cable guide nuts (1).




10. Remove the 4 park brake lever assembly nuts (1).
11. Remove the park brake lever assembly from the vehicle while guiding the front park brake cable and equalizer through the floor panel.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the park brake lever assembly to the vehicle while guiding the front park brake cable and equalizer through the floor panel.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the 4 park brake lever assembly nuts (1).

Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




3. Install the 2 front park brake cable guide nuts (1).

Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Install the left rear park brake cable (1) and the right rear park brake cable (2) to the equalizer.
6. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (Adjustments).
7. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
