Repair Procedure

NOTE

There are two separate Repair Methods to improve the hood "pop up" performance. It is recommended that Repair Method No. 1 be attempted first. If Repair Method No. 1 is attempted and is not successful, then use Repair Method No. 2 to complete the repair. In either situation, the (3) shoulder bolts must be replaced with (3) standard bolts (P/N 90119-A0148).

Repair Method No. 1

1. Use a white marking crayon or masking tape to mark the location of the hood lock assembly on the support structure.

2. Remove the (3) original shoulder type bolts attaching the hood lock to the support structure and replace them with (3) standard bolts (P/N 90119-A0148).

3. Reinstall the original hood lock assembly on the support structure using the new standard bolts. Use the previous white crayon marks or masking tape to align the hood lock to the support structure.

4. Slightly tighten the (3) attaching bolts. Close the hood and confirm that the striker enters the hood lock assembly smoothly and with little effort.

If readjustment is necessary, open the hood and tap the base of the hood lock assembly with a plastic-faced hammer until the correct adjustment is achieved.

5. Shut the hood completely.

A. Confirm the striker enters the hood lock assembly smoothly and with little effort.

B. Confirm the hood shuts completely.

6. Open the hood using the pull handle inside the vehicle.

A. Observe how easily the hood "pops open". If proper operation is achieved by using Repair Method No. 1, torque the (3) hood lock attaching bolts.

Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in*lbf)

B. If Repair Method No. 1 described above is successful, complete step 7.

If Repair Method No. 1 is not successful in restoring proper hood opening and closing operations, leave the alignment markings in place and follow Repair Method No. 2.

7. Clean off any crayon residue or remove any remnants of masking tape around the hood lock assembly.

Repair Method No. 2

1. Remove the (3) standard bolts (P/N 90119-A0148) installed during Repair Method No. 1.

2. Install a new hood lock assembly (P/N 53510-74011) using the (3) standard bolts (P/N 90119-A0148). Use the previous white crayon marks to align the hood lock to the support structure.

4. Shut the hood completely.

5. If the striker enters the hood lock assembly smoothly and with little effort, and the hood shuts correctly, use the pull handle inside the vehicle to open the hood.

6. Observe how easily the hood "pops open". If proper operation is achieved by using Repair Method No. 2, torque the (3) hood lock attaching bolts.

Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in*lbf)

7. Clean off any crayon residue or remove any remnants of masking tape around the hood lock assembly.
