Number: 11-10-82Date: 06-25-82
Applicability: 1981 and 1982 Vehicles
Subject: Hot Restart Driveability
Should you receive a complaint from a customer of a driveability condition in a 1981 or 1982 Subaru vehicle, it could be attributed to many factors. It will first be necessary to determine that the basic operating specifications of the vehicle are set properly.
The list can be used as a check list when inspecting a vehicle.
If the drive ability condition still exists on a 1981 Subaru vehicle after all the specifications have been verified, modifications can be made to the vehicle which will help to minimize the occurrence of this condition. These modifications are out lined in Service Bulletins 11-04-81 dated 7-20-81. Steps "A & B". Before proceeding any further, be sure these modifications have been made in their entirety and are operating properly.
A float chamber vent is also now available for 1981 vehicles which corrects any complaint of hot restart driveability to within acceptable industry standards.
Part number and applicability information.
Float chamber vents are available for those 1982 vehicles produced prior to the modification which may exhibit an unacceptable hot restart driveability problem.
Also, 1982 Carter Carburetor vehicles can be fitted with a duty modification kit for those vehicles that may have an unacceptable hot restart driveability condition.
Part number and applicability information.
Note:
Hitachi Carburetor vehicles equipped with a Subaru Block Heater accessory will require an adapter kit. Contact your distributor Service Manager for details.
Some 1982 Hitachi Carb Vehicles Were Fitted In Production, With A Modified Carburetor Top (Choke Chamber Assy.) Which Already Has A Nipple For Installation Of The Float Chamber Vent. These Vehicles Will Not Require Replacement Of The Carburetor Top If The Need Arises For Installation Of An F-2 Kit.
The approximate starting engine #'s for this change are illustrated.
When necessary, the installation of the above mentioned kits can be claimed on an MSA-4OO using the operation numbers.
Installation instructions for these kits are available through your Subaru Distributor.
