Modified Carburetor Needle Valve: Overview

Number: 9-14-92

Date 4-27-82

Applicability: 1982 Models Equipped With Hitachi Carburetors

Subject: Modified Carburetor Needle Valve

The needle valve and choke chamber (carburetor top) of the Hitachi Carburetor have been modified in production beginning on January 19, 1982. Six (6) holes have been added to the needle valve seat (See Figure 1) and a sleeve has been added to the choke chamber. The needle valve and seat screws into the choke chamber and the six (6) holes in the valve seat are surrounded by the sleeve.

When the needle valve drops, fuel pressure forces fuel through the six (6) holes in the valve seat. The fuel stream then flows down the sleeve into the float bowl.

Table 1 lists new part numbers for the above modification.

Table 2 lists starting engine numbers and applications for the modified carburetors.

Details of this modification are for information only. Warranty claims for retrofitting of modified components to early production vehicles will not be accepted unless a warrantable failure to the original choke chamber has occurred.
