Engine - Hot Restart Driveability Kit

APPLICABILITY:
All 1981 & 1982 VEHICLES EXCEPT '81 BRAT EQUIPPED WITH A BLOCK HEATER (SOA 850000)
SUBJECT:
HOT START DRIVEABILITY - INSTALLATION OF F-3 KIT (483397100).
An F-3 Kit must be used in conjunction with an F-1 or F-2 kit on vehicles equipped with a Subaru Block Heater - (SOA 850000).
These instructions are to be used in conjunction with the F-1 & F-2 kit instructions.
NOTE:
When using an F-3 Kit, the thermosensor, - P/N 483357000 and block plug, - P/N 484787000 from the F-1/F-2 Kits are not to be installed.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove Air Cleaner case.
3. Installation of Thermistor - NO SMOKING
A). Place a rag underneath the carb bowl to absorb gasoline drippage.
B). Remove lock late & plug for primary main jet found on the carb float bowl. (See Figure 1).
C). Install thermistor with a new gasket in place of the removed plug. Torque thermistor to 11.0 to 14.0 ft.lbs. (1-5 to 2.0 KG-M).
D). Install new lock plate.
E). Remove rag and dispose of properly.
4. Installation of Solenoid Valve Assy.
A). Install the solenoid valve assy. onto the left side of the intake manifold using the outer bolt as shown in Figure 2.
B). Secure the solenoid valve wiring harness to the blow-by hose with ty-raps.
5. Vacuum Hose Connection (Also refer to F1/F2 Instruction Sheet).
A). Connect vacuum switch valve - P/N 461057000 to solenoid valve assy. with vacuum hose (4x9x25x270)
B). Secure the hose to blow-by hose with ty-raps.
C). Connect solenoid valve assy. to connector II - P/N 325650420 ("T" type connector) with hose (4x9x25xx640).
NOTE:
Route this hose behind Carb.
6. Installation of Control Unit
A). Remove three (3) tapping screws which secure upper portion of front luggage shelf as shown in Figure 3.
B). Drill a hole 0.28 in. (7 mm) in diameter on front luggage shelf as shown in Figure 4.
C). Install control unit to luggage shelf.
7. Installation of Wiring Harness
A). Cut protruding portion of wiring harness grommet on right side of fire wall so that you may pass the control unit wiring connector through it. (See Figure 5).
B). Connect the control unit connector to the control unit. Install the three screws earlier removed from the luggage shelf.
C). Connect the rest of the terminals as shown in Figure 6.
D). Secure the F-3 wiring harness to main wiring harness with ty-raps.
8. Function Check and Adjustment Procedures
Refer to the original F-Kit Instruction Booklet - effective date - 6-17-82.
