(4WD) VEHICLES ONLY
SUBJECT: UNDERHOOD EMISSION LABELS
Early production 1983 49 State L.D.T. (4WD) vehicles were fitted with an incorrect underhood emission label.
FIGURE 1:
The incorrect label listed below in Figure 1 contains this statement:
"ABOVE TUNE-UP SPECIFICATIONS AND ADJUSTMENT ARE APPLICABLE TO BOTH LOW AND HIGH ALTITUDES EXCEPT IGNITION TIMING. IGNITION TIMING ABOVE MENTIONED IS APPLICABLE TO LOW ALTITUDE. AT HIGH ALTITUDE, IGNITION TIMING SHOULD BE ADJUSTED TO 12 DEGREES +/- 2 DEGREES BTDC AT IDLE SPEED."
The underlined portion of this statement, is incorrect..
If you should encounter a vehicle with an incorrect label (See Figure 1), please black out the incorrect statement with a magic marker.
FIGURE 2:
THE CORRECT IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATION FOR ALL 1983 VEHICLES IS 8 DEGREES +/- 2 DEGREES AT IDLE SPEED AS SHOWN ON CORRECT LABEL IN FIGURE 2.
The proper labels (See Figure 2) were fitted in production starting with the approximate VIN'S listed below:
1983 HATCHBACK 4WD 104 176
1983 STATION WAGON 4WD 415 944
1983 BRAT 500 980
