Removal and Installation

1. Raise front of vehicle and support with safety stands, then remove wheels.
2. Remove parking brake cable bracket from transverse link, Figs. 1 and 2.
3. Remove and discard axle-to-driveshaft spring pin.
4. Remove disc brake assembly.
5. Disconnect tie rod, transverse link and damper strut.
6. Remove axle shaft with housing from differential.

7. Remove axle shaft from housing using suitable tool. Check axle housing bearing for wear or damage and replace oil seals, Fig. 3.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque axle nut to 145 ft.lbs. (20 kg-m), transverse link bolt to 22-29 ft.lbs. (3-4 kg-m), damper strut bolt to 22-29 ft.lbs. (3-4 kg-m), tie rod nut to 18-22 ft.lbs. (2.5-3 kg-m), disc brake assembly bolt to 36-51 ft.lbs. (5-7 kg-m), and disc brake cover bolt to 4.3-10 ft.lbs. (.6-1.4 kg-m).
