Door Mirrors - Loose

APPLICABILITY ALL "L" SERIES VEHICLES

SUBJECT: LOOSE DOOR MIRRORS

If you encounter a loose right or left door mirror, loose retaining screws and/or hinge screws may be the cause.

Perform the following steps:

1) Remove the gusset cover from the inside of the door.
2) Locate the three retaining screws, tighten hand tight, and reinstall the gusset cover. See Figure 1.
3) Locate the hinge screws on the bottom of the mirror.
4) Remove the screws one at a time and coat the screw threads with a thread locking sealant.
Example: Loctite brand.

Note: Do not scratch the paint on the door when removing the screws.

5) Reinstall the screw hand tight and snug.
6) Ensure that the mirror is tight and operates properly.

The mirror hinge screw tightening torque has been increased from 0.8 ft.lbs. to 1.2 ft.lbs. in production since January 23, 1987.

This procedure can be claimed for vehicles within the terms of the limited Subaru warranty using;
