TIMING PROCEDURE

Before checking and adjusting ignition timing, it is necessary to confirm that the throttle sensor idle switch is "ON" using the following procedure:

Throttle Sensor Adjustment (Turbo):

1. Remove throttle sensor connector.
2. Check resistance between throttle sensor terminals "A" and "C" when throttle is fully closed. If there is continuity, no adjustment is needed. If there is no continuity, adjustment is required.
3. Insert a thickness gauge (0.55mm, 0.0217in) between the throttle body stopper screw and the stopper (this corresponds to a throttle opening of 1.5°).
4. Loosen two screws securing throttle sensor to throttle body.
5. Adjust throttle sensor until continuity across terminals "A" and "C" is obtained. Tighten screws.
6. Replace first thickness gauge with a second (0.92mm, 0.0362in) (this corresponds to a throttle opening of 2.5°).
7. There should be no continuity across terminals "A" and "C."
8. If correct adjustment cannot be made, replace throttle sensor.

IGNITION TIMING ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

1. Warm up engine.
2. Confirm that throttle sensor idle switch is "ON."
3. Connect Test Mode connector (green connector) located under the LH side of the instrument cluster.
4. Hook up timing light, start engine and check timing.
5. If adjustment is needed, loosen 6mm distributor plate mounting bolts.
6. Turn distributor clockwise to advance timing and counterclockwise to retard timing.
7. When adjustment is complete, tighten bolts and recheck timing.
8. Turn off engine and disconnect Test Mode connector.

Ignition Timing (BTDC):

M/T: 20°/700 rpm
A/T: 20°/800 rpm
