Refrigerant Oil: Service and Repair

Compressor lubrication oil circulates with refrigerant while the system is operating. If significant refrigerant is lost, or if a component needs to be replaced, check oil level as follows:

1. Set A/C controls for maximum cooling and high blower speed.
2. Operate engine at 1000 - 1500 rpm for approximately 10 minutes.
3. Stop engine and discharge system.

4. Replace the needed component, adding the appropriate amount of oil (90PX) to the component before installation. (Refer to Fig. 7)

5. If replacing the compressor, drain oil from compressor into a premeasured container. On Diesel Kiki models, drain oil through drain plug. On Calsonic models, drain oil through suction and delivery ports. Rotate clutch hub two or three times to completely drain oil.

Note: A new compressor contains the following quantities of oil:
- Diesel Kiki or Zexel: 150 cc (5.1 fl.oz)
- Calsonic: 236 cc (8.0 fl.oz)

6. Drain 80cc (for Diesel Kiki or Zexel) (95cc for Calsonic) of oil from new compressor or adjust amount of oil to equal that from the old compressor.
7. If adding oil, pour premeasured oil into compressor suction port with aid of a funnel. Always use 90PX for replacement oil.
8. Install compressor, evacuate and recharge system.
