Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection

Positive Crankcase Ventilation System:

1. Check PCV hoses and connections for leaks and clogging. Hoses may be blown out with compressed air.
2. Check that oil filler cap gasket is in good condition and that cap fits securely on its seat.
3. To check PCV valve:
a. Disconnect hose from PCV valve.
b. With finger on end of valve, rev engine.
c. Valve is good if vacuum is felt; if no vacuum, replace valve.
d. Check valve alone by shaking it; if it does not move, replace valve.
