Operation

OPERATION

1) Set parking brake
When the parking brake lever is moved back, lever (2) located on the end of the parking brake cable (1) moves strut (3) in the direction of "A" with point "P" utilized as a fulcrum.
The strut then presses brake shoes (4) and (5) against the drum. These brake shoes utilize a floating design and are lightly supported by hold-down pins (7) The force applied to brake shoe (4) and the reaction force of "A" applied to brake shoe (5) via point "P" provide brake application when the shoes are pressed against the brake drum.

2) Release parking brake
When the parking brake lever is moved forward, parking brake cable (1) is loosened. This returns brake shoes (4) and (5) to their original position from the tension of return spring (6) so that the parking brake is released.
