General Vehicle Precautions
AIR BAG SYSTEM DISARMING AND ARMINGWARNING: Before performing any service procedures in or around SRS related components and/or harnesses, always disarm the air bag system.
Disarming
1. Place ignition switch in Off position/
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then positive cable.
3. Wait 20 seconds before beginning repair procedures.
Arming
1. Ensure no one is inside vehicle.
2. With ignition switch in Off position, connect battery positive cable, then the ground cable.
3. Wait at least 20 seconds, then turn ignition switch to on position and note air bag warning lamp operation. Lamp should light for approximately eight seconds, then go off. If lamp remains illuminated or fails to light, an air bag system malfunction is indicated. Diagnose and repair as necessary.
FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF
1. Fold down rear seat back and remove floor mat, then remove access hole cover.
2. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connection.
3. Start engine and run until engine stalls.
4. After engine stalls, crank engine for five more seconds, then place ignition switch in OFF position.
5. Reconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERANT PRECAUTIONS
1. Do not interchange parts between a R12 system and R134a system.
2. Do not use compressor oil that is not specifically designated for the R134a system.
3. The compressor oil used in R134a systems absorbs water very easily. When any system component is being removed, quickly install a blind plug to prevent contact with the outside air. Ensure the service container for the compressor oil is tightly closed.
4. Do not put R12 refrigerant into a R134a system.
5. Do not put R134a refrigerant into a R12 system.
6. Refrigerant boils at approximately -22°F (-30°C), it is cold enough to cause severe frostbite. Always wear goggles and gloves when working on an A/C system.
7. Never expose a container of R134a refrigerant to direct sunlight or to temperatures over 104°F (40°C). Exposure to this kind of heat could cause the pressure inside the container to increase to a dangerous level.
8. When R134a refrigerant is exposed to an open flame or hot metal it forms phosgene, a deadly gas. Never discharge R134a refrigerant directly into the atmosphere.
BRAKE FLUID SAFETY
Do not allow brake fluid to contact painted areas, never reuse brake fluid and never use mineral oils such as gasoline or kerosine that will ruin rubber parts of hydraulic system.
