Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Inhibitor Switch

INHIBITOR SWITCH

The inhibitor switch is installed in the control valve and is connected to the TCM with 4 signal lines.
The TCM uses this signal to detect range positions and to perform various controls. Relation between signals from the 4 lines (INH1 to 4) and range positions are as shown in the table.
When the range position is detected as P or N as shown, the TCM sends a signal (PN signal) allowing operation of the starter. On the other hand, in R or D range, starter operation is inhibited to ensure safety.
Additionally, when the range position is detected as R, the TCM turns the backup light relay output to ON and lets the backup lights illuminate.
