NUMBER: 12-93-06
DATE: 08/01/06

APPLICABILITY:
2006MY Impreza Wagon

SUBJECT:
Condensation in Rear Combination Lamp

INTRODUCTION

There is the possibility that condensation could be present in the rear combination lamp. Condensation could form when there is a temperature difference between the outside and inside of the rear combination lamp. The information contained in this bulletin provides the procedure for removing and preventing the condensation from appearing along with eliminating the need for replacing the rear combination lamp.

PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE

A modification in production consisting of removing the filter from the rubber cap was made in April, 2006 starting with VIN 6*817076.

REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION

Rear combination lamp removal

1) Remove the two clips and the trim cover from the rear combination lamp (see figure 1).

2) Remove the two bolts, then carefully remove the rear combination lamp by pulling it backward (see figure 2).

3) Remove the three breather covers from the backside of the combination lamp. If the covers are difficult to remove, pliers wrapped with a rag can be used (see Figure 3 and 4).

Note:
If there is excessive condensation in the inside of the rear combination lamp, a hair dryer may be used. Caution: DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR

4) Remove all of the lamp bulb sockets. Tilting and shaking the lamp will remove most, if not all of the condensation. When using a hair dryer be extremely careful not to deform the combination lamp lens or backside panel. Make sure to adjust hair dryer air temperature below 80 degrees C (176 Fahrenheit). Any higher temperature will cause damage to the combination lamp.

5) Remove the rubber cap with filter from the breather cover (figure 5).

6) The filter (white cloth) is glued to the top of the rubber cap. Remove the filter from the rubber cap by punching a hole in it using a screw driver. Remove as much of the filter as possible from the rubber cap (see Figure 6 and 7).

7) Reinstall rubber cap into breather cover. Reinstall breather cover to the backside of the combination lamp. Make sure that they are pushed on all the way and properly seated.

8) Reinstall combination lamp in reverse order.
