Body - Rattles From Liftgate Area

SUBJECT:
Rear Gate Rattle

INTRODUCTION

In the event you encounter a customer complaint of a rattle type noise coming from the rear gate area of the vehicle, the rear gate striker may be out of adjustment or the rubber stopper distorted The noise will be more pronounced while driving over bumpy roads and during colder weather After confirming the noise, refer to the repair procedure listed

PRODUCTION LINE CHANGE





The rubber stopper was changed in production starting in November, 2006 with the VINs shown.





PARTS INFORMATION

REPAIR PROCEDURES/INFORMATION





1) Measure the gap between the rear gate and combination lamps.





2) The rear gate striker position can be slightly adjusted to improve the fit. Note: While adjusting striker, make sure to wear safety glasses.

3) If striker appears to be loose after adjustment remove the trim cover and re-torque bolts to 25 +/- 5 N-m (2.5 +/- 0.5 kgf-m, 18.4+/- 3.7 ft-lb)

REAR GATE RUBBER STOPPER & SPACER REPLACEMENT





1) Remove the 2 rear gate robber stoppers.





2) Install a spacer (part # 63252AG000) between the rear gate and the rubber stopper (part 463262AG10B). Note: Removing the trim clip and carefully lifting up on the trim with a plastic trim tool will ease the installation.

For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited Warranty period this repair can be claimed using the table.
