Front Suspension
The content of this article reflects Manual update # 05-43-09 dated 03/24/09
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform you that the front strut hardware has been changed along with the torque specification of the self-locking nut.
The new hardware was used in production as follows.
Forester VIN# 9*700163 December, 2007
Impreza Sedan VIN# 8*522466 December, 2007

Parts information and torque specification.
Forester/Impreza new self lock nut* part# 902380008 155N-m (15.8 kgf-m, 114 ft-lb)
Forester/ Impreza Bolts Part# s 901660038 901000334 must be used.
Legacy/Outback new self lock nut* part# 902330007 155N-m (15.8 kgf-m, 114 ft-lb)
Tribeca new self lock nut* part# 9022330007 155N-m (15.8 kgf-m, 114 ft-lb)
* NOTE The self lock nut is one time use only.
Front Strut
REMOVAL
1) Remove the wheels.
2) Remove the bolt securing the brake hose from the strut.
3) Scribe an alignment mark on the camber adjusting bolt that secures the strut to the housing.
4) Remove the bolt securing the ABS wheel speed sensor harness.
5) Remove the two bolts securing the housing to the strut.
NOTE: While holding the head of the adjusting bolt, loosen the self-locking nut.
6) Remove the three nuts securing strut mount to body.
INSTALLATION
1) Install the strut mount at upper side of strut to the body, and tighten it with new nuts.
Tightening torque: 20 N-m (2.0 kgf-m, 14.8 ft-lb)
2) Align to the alignment marks on the camber adjusting bolt and strut bottom. Using new self-locking nuts, install the strut to the housing.
NOTE: While holding the head of adjusting bolt, tighten the self-locking nut.
Tightening torque: 175 N-m (17.8 kgf-m, 129 ft-lb)
3) Secure the ABS wheel speed sensor harness to the strut.
Tightening torque: 33 N-m (3.4 kgf-m, 24.3 ft-lb)
4) Install the bolts which secure the brake hose to the strut.
Tightening torque: 33 N-m (3.4 kgf-m, 24.3 ft-lb)
5) Install the wheel.
6) Inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.
